It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 13th International Conference on Asian and Pacific Coasts (APAC 2027), to be held in Nanjing, China, from October 19 to 22, 2027.

Since its first conference in 2001, APAC has grown into an important forum for the coastal community across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Through its biennial gatherings, researchers, engineers, practitioners, and students have come together to share new knowledge, exchange perspectives, and build lasting partnerships across national and disciplinary boundaries.

APAC 2027 marks another important chapter in the conference’s connection with China. Following the 2007 conference in Nanjing and the 2011 edition in Hong Kong, we are delighted to welcome the APAC community to Nanjing in 2027.

The theme of APAC 2027, “Resilient Coasts in the Context of Climate Change,” reflects both the progress of our field and the increasingly complex challenges facing coastal regions worldwide. Climate change, sea-level rise, extreme events, and growing pressures on coastal environments call for closer integration of science, engineering, technology, and management. We hope APAC 2027 will provide an open platform for sharing the latest advances, discussing emerging challenges, and exploring new approaches toward more resilient and sustainable coastal futures.

At the same time, APAC has always been about people as much as research. Beyond the technical sessions, the conference offers opportunities to reconnect with long-standing colleagues, meet new partners, exchange ideas openly, and develop new collaborations. We especially hope that young researchers and students will find APAC 2027 a valuable opportunity to broaden their perspectives, engage with the international coastal community, and build connections for the future.

Nanjing provides a distinctive setting for this gathering. Situated on the Yangtze River, the city has a long history closely connected with water, together with a strong academic tradition and a vibrant modern character. We hope you will enjoy not only the scientific and professional exchanges at the conference, but also the history, culture, and hospitality of Nanjing.
